About IV Sedation

As part of our commitment to our patients, MINT dentistry is focused on making sure you are comfortable and relaxed during your visits. MINT dentistry in Houston, TX is pleased to offer intravenous (IV) sedation as an option for patients who need oral surgery. IV sedation is is often recommended during longer or more invasive procedures, including implant or extraction surgery. This sedation dentistry method uses anti-anxiety medication, delivered directly into your vein. The medication, administered by a board-certified dentist, can help keep you calm and relaxed during oral surgery. While you will remain awake during the procedure, the relaxation may make you feel like you were unconscious. The levels of medication administered will be closely adjusted all throughout your appointment to ensure you are comfortable as well as safe. If you need IV sedation for oral surgery, your team of MINT dentistry professionals will discuss the process during your pre-op appointment.

Best Candidates

Stronger methods, like IV sedation, are reserved for patients having oral surgery. If you need IV sedation, your board-certified MINT dentist will need to know about both your current health and your medical history. You team will also talk about other sedation methods offered at MINT dentistry before choosing the best method for your needs and goals. Your MINT dentistry team is dedicated to helping you achieve the sexy teeth you desire while making sure you feel safe and comfortable.

What to Expect

To start your appointment, we will ask you to lay back on a luxurious treatment chair in one of our well-equipped procedure rooms. Our team will provide you with a pair of Beats headphones so you can listen to music and swanky MINT dentistry sunglasses. As soon as you are settled in, we will carefully insert the small needle into a vein in your arm and the anti-anxiety medicine will be administered. You will begin to feel comfortable after a minute or two. When you are sedated, your team will begin your oral surgery. As soon as the procedure is complete, the IV will be removed and you'll start to wake up in a short while.

Treatment Aftercare

The medication will still be in your system, so you should not drive for at least 24 hours following IV sedation. You should plan to have a responsible friend or family member take you home. After you get home, you should rest and stay hydrated, as most patients feel sleepy the remainder of the day. In some cases, you could become nauseous or experience memory loss. Do not be alarmed – these side effects are normal and typically be gone quickly. IV sedation does not usually cause an adverse reaction, but if you have questions, concerns, or lasting symptoms, you should contact our office.

The MINT Commitment

Sedation techniques, like intravenous medication, might not be covered even if you have dental insurance. Before we administer your sedation, our office will contact your insurance provider to understand how much of your costs will be covered. MINT dentistry also provides financial planning and payment options. The team at MINT dentistry believes that every visit to improve your smile should be a positive experience.
